About the Role

We are looking for an experienced, project-oriented Electrical Design Engineer to join our Design Engineering team in Okayama, Japan. In this role, you will play a significant part in performing electrical design, specification, project management, installation, startup, and validation for existing and new process equipment.

Responsibilities

•    Lead and follow as a team member of projects from start to finish, including defining project scope, writing specifications, design, contract and procurement, build, installation, start-up, and qualification of processing equipment
•    Engage within the design engineering function and as an integral member of project teams. Project teams will have cross-functional representation that may include mechanical engineers, electrical engineers, process engineers, IT, facilities, shop maintenance, operations, procurement and EH&S
•    Partner with product development, process engineering, leadership, and manufacturing teams to determine equipment needs and project requirements
•    Ensure equipment design following law, regulation, and Gore policy for safety, environment and health
•    Ensure equipment performance as expected through equipment validation and the documentation in aligning with quality system
•    Work closely and partner with shop maintenance associates as a resource for electrical expertise and support them with breakdowns and troubleshooting of existing equipment using skill of root cause analysis
•    Understand and provide input to asset life cycle and obsolescence strategies
•    Leverage proven enterprise tools & project practices for successful project execution
•    Working closely with suppliers on the design and purchase of new equipment and modifications to existing systems 
•    Perform electrical design and hands-on start-up for process equipment (e.g., drives, programmable logic controller [PLC] logic programming, human-machine interfaces [HMIs], wiring schematics, instrumentation, and motor control systems) 
•    Create and update specifications, software, and documentation
•    Provide field supervision of contractors for installation and start-up of new equipment
•    Transfer knowledge to engineers, shop maintenance, and manufacturing teams supporting the equipment long term
•    Collaborate globally where appropriate

Required Qualifications

•    Degree in Electrical Engineering, Electromechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, Electromechanical Engineering Technology or other Engineering degree with a minimum of 3 years’ relevant experience in controls 
•    Demonstrated Project Management with a track record of achieving timelines and deliverables
•    Experience with industrial motor drive and control systems
•    Programming experience of Mitsubishi PLC at least 2 years
•    Industrial networking experience 
•    Skills and practical experience in SCADA (AVEVA System Platform) and control network construction
•    Data acquisition, management and reporting experience
•    Demonstrated experience with the development of specifications for communicating requirements to suppliers
•    Ability to reflect requirements to equipment design regarding safety and environment
•    Working knowledge of the applicable electrical codes and machine safety practices 
•    Demonstrated ability to learn and apply new skills and technologies
•    Effectively communicates and documents technical information and data
•    Demonstrated interpersonal skills, including communicating and influencing across different functions and teams
•    Effective communication in English and Japanese, including technical information
•    Travel up to 10%

Desired Qualifications

•    Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electromechanical Engineering
•    Experience with Microsoft operating systems and server management
•    Experience with Power Platform development 
•    Experience with industrial robot control and motion control
•    Experience with feedback control
•    Practical experience in designing, installing, improving or updating roll-to-roll equipment
•    Working knowledge and understanding of safety design for production equipment (performance level, safety category, etc.) and be able to apply (design, implementation, validation) to safety circuit control systems
•    Siemens and/or Allen Bradley PLC and drive programming experience
•    Knowledge of laws and regulations regarding equipment installation
•    Computer-Aided Design (CAD) drawing experience to generate schematics and equipment documentation 
•    Practical experience with analyzing data using statistical methods
