About the Role

We are seeking a Technical Apparel Designer to join our in-house product creation team. In this role, you will be responsible for translating consumer insights and performance requirements into purposeful, high-performing designs that embody SITKA’s value proposition and aesthetic vision. You will inspire, ideate, and create leveraging innovative design methods, advanced materials, and creative problem-solving to deliver compelling, best-in-class apparel solutions across SITKA’s hunt and fish categories. Your work will help define how our consumers experience the pursuit, bringing functional performance to every environment and condition. 

This position will be located at our facility in Bozeman, Montana, with the possibility of a hybrid work arrangement. Relocation assistance may be available for this position. 

Responsibilities

  • Bring fresh, disruptive design thinking to SITKA’s technical apparel line, challenging convention through purposeful innovation
  • Deliver solutions and apparel designs that align with consumer insights, performance needs, seasonal frameworks, and key business objectives
  • Collaborate seamlessly with cross-functional partners — including development, materials, and marketing — to ensure a cohesive design language and consistent aesthetic across the entire collection
  • Present designs and seasonal concepts, incorporating relevant trend and market insights to effectively communicate intent and relevance in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
  • Engage actively in prototype and sample reviews, driving revisions and improvements in alignment with SITKA’s GTM process and Apparel Key Events Calendar
  • Partner with development and materials teams to identify or engineer fabrics that meet both design intent and margin goals
  • Create detailed style and construction sketches to support tech pack generation and development accuracy
  • Collaborate on the design and development of trims, hardware, and finishing details that elevate performance and storytelling
  • Support seasonal color strategy through color-ups, artwork development, and merchandising alignment
  • Maintain a deep understanding of SITKA’s consumer, culture, and pursuits, ensuring all designs resonate authentically with our end user

Required Qualifications

  • Bechelors degree in related field 
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in Technical Apparel Design (or equivalent), with a strong focus on performance outdoor and lifestyle apparel
  • Deeply consumer-centric mindset, grounded in an understanding of both current and emerging consumer needs
  • Adaptive thinker with strong problem-solving skills and the ability to thrive in a fast moving, rapidly changing environment
  • A drive for innovative problem solving and creative excellence, balanced with commercial sensibility
  • Excellent collaboration and influencing skills across multidisciplinary teams
  • Strong understanding of color, pattern, and print development, with the ability to guide and direct execution
  • Proven ability to translate seasonal inspiration into commercially viable designs
  • Comprehensive understanding of how materials, construction, and costing influence final product execution
  • Exceptional presentation and storytelling skills to communicate vision and intent
  • Strong ability to “connect the dots”, building upon commonalities both in functionality and aesthetic, assuring a cohesive flow throughout the product line
  • Strong verbal, written, and visual communication abilities

Desired Qualifications

  • Expert knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite; hands-on sample-building or prototyping experience is a plus.
  • Complete comprehension of the apparel manufacturing process and its influence on design outcomes.
  • A deep, instinctive knowledge of the SITKA consumer, culture, and pursuits, rooted in authentic experience and passion for the outdoors.
