We are seeking a talented Data Engineer to join our Specialty IT team. In this role, you will be responsible for architecting, developing and deploying data models and associated systems that collect, process and store large volumes of data. This includes Specialty’s Azure Cloud Modern Data Estate. Working closely with cross-functional teams, you will analyze and translate business needs to create data models that deliver critical data-driven insights and analytics that propel our organization forward.

 

This position will be located at our facility in Elkton, Maryland, with the possibility of a hybrid remote work arrangement, depending upon the responsibilities of the role and business needs.

 

 Pay and Benefits:

  • $115,000 - $150,000 per year
  • Roles above $150k are eligible for the variable pay program each fiscal year, based on defined business performance metrics

Responsibilities

  • Design, build, implement and maintain data models and systems that store large volumes of data
  • Own and maintain the infrastructure for data management and analytics for Specialty in close alignment with the Enterprise guidelines and control the costs of its operations
  • Collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders to understand requirements, gather insights, and prioritize projects.
  • Evaluate, implement and improve the performance of analytics and other AI models through continuous experimentation and optimization.
  • Work independently or collaboratively with other IT Teams to develop ML models, pipelines or services, utilizing various types of data source
  • Stay updated on the latest advancements and best practices in machine learning and artificial intelligence.
  • Identify and analyze potential for new technologies to optimize business processes collaboratively with stakeholders

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Computer Science or Business Informatics, with focus on software engineering and/or machine learning
  • Minimum 3 years demonstrated experience with data modeling, data architecture, and data security
  • Experience with data preprocessing, feature engineering, and model evaluation
  • Experience with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, Google Cloud) and distributed computing frameworks
  • Expertise in designing, building, and maintaining scalable pipelines, applications, and front-ends
  • Knowledge of various data storage and processing technologies like SQL databases, NoSQL databases, and data warehousing tools
  • Proficiency in programming languages (e.g.: Python, Power Apps)
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to think creatively to address complex business challenges
  • Effective communication skills with the ability to collaborate across teams and articulate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders
  • Ability to travel 5%

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience with business process automation (e.g.: MS Power Platform)
  • Experience in developing and deploying machine learning models and applications.
  • Experience championing innovative technologies through pilots, proof of concepts, etc.
  • Experience in a customer-facing role, managing stakeholder expectations and business requirements while providing technical guidance and support.
  • Knowledge of diverse database technologies, such as graph and vector databases
