About the Role

We are seeking an Environmental & Safe Material Handling Specialist to support both environmental compliance and safe material-handling practices across the Enterprise. In this role, you will partner with plant, divisional, and global EH&S teams to identify, assess, and control risks, while driving continuous improvement in environmental performance and material-handling safety. This position offers the opportunity to influence strategy, strengthen compliance systems, and support risk-reduction initiatives.

 

Pay and Benefits:

  • $110,000 - $145,000 per year

Responsibilities

  • Implement and maintain environmental compliance programs (air, water, waste, EPCRA).
  • Prepare and submit environmental permits, modifications, and monitoring documentation.
  • Support industrial waste compliance and associated reporting.
  • Serve as a point of contact with regulatory agencies and consultants.
  • Contribute to emergency response planning and improvement efforts.
  • Deliver training to enhance environmental awareness and performance.
  • Collect and analyze environmental metrics to prepare and submit regulatory reports including TRI, Tier II, RCRA Hazardous Waste, and Air Emission Certifications.
  • Conduct compliance-gap assessments and stay current on evolving regulations.
  • Identify, assess, and control risks associated with material-handling operations.
  • Conduct risk assessments and audits of material‑handling practices and equipment.
  • Evaluate chemicals and materials to ensure safe handling, storage, and processing requirements are met.
  • Develop, implement, and sustain standards, procedures, and best practices for material‑handling safety.
  • Create and deliver training and guidance for associates involved in material‑handling activities.
  • Maintain up‑to‑date knowledge of industry best practices and emerging material‑handling requirements.
  • Partner with internal cross‑functional stakeholders to prioritize compliance, risk mitigation, and continuous improvement.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, Engineering, Chemistry, Industrial Hygiene, Biology, or related field.
  • Minimum of 2 years of EH&S experience, including environmental regulatory or material-handling risk management.
  • Chemistry background or experience, with an understanding of chemical interactions.
  • Experience in manufacturing, chemical processing, or laboratory environments.
  • Experience with air/water permitting and/or hazardous waste management.
  • Ability to develop material balances and quantify emissions to air, water, waste, and product content.
  • Demonstrated success in risk identification, assessment, and control.
  • Strong problem‑solving and root-cause analysis skills.
  • Proven ability to influence across functions and regions.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Ability to travel 5–10%.

 

Desired Qualifications

  • Environmental Certifications (EIT, PE, CHMM)
  • Experience with Hazardous Waste Management & Working knowledge of MDE (Maryland Department of the Environment)
  • Knowledge of EH&S management systems (e.g. ISO 14001 & ISO 45001), related consensus standards, and industry best practices

 

This position requires access to export-controlled areas and information. Candidates must be "U.S. persons" as that term is defined in 8 USC §1324b(a)(3). This position offers a hybrid work arrangement in the country from which the Associate is employed. Eligibility is dependent on the responsibilities of the role and business needs, and the Associate must agree to comply with Gore’s work arrangement policies.
