About the Role

Okayama Engineering team in GPS is looking for an energetic, flexible, and high performing Process Engineer to lead the projects for capital investment, platform process development, and continuous improvement.

 

Okayama plant is one of key plant in global supply chain for the business of Electronics, Automotive, and Semicon. Especially, oleophobic/hydrophobic coating processes at Okayama is known as a world class coating capability.

In addition, GPS is actively investing and accelerating to develop non-fluorinated products as complementary products based on industrial market trend. Okayama Engineering team is leading to develop non-fluorinated coating platform process to accommodate the needs from the GPS biggest strategic customer today.

 

In this commitment you will own the effectiveness of manufacturing equipment and platform processes at Okayama plant to produce the needed range of products reliably and consistently.

Responsibilities

  • Develop platform processes, manufacturing equipment, and fundamental technologies behind them
  • Install new equipment, and upgrade or improve existing equipment
  • Conduct proactive continuous improvement on process
  • Provide process engineering support for trouble shooting and process improvement along the entire supply chain

 

In more detail,

  • Lead or participate in capital investment projects (design/install/IQOQ validation) working with design engineers
  • Lead or participate in process/technology development projects working with NPD associates and Product Process Engineers to accelerate new product/technology development
  • Drive root cause resolution of equipment and product quality upsets
  • Identify and lead efforts to increase capacity, reduce lead times, address product quality concerns, reduce manufacturing costs, maintain safety, reduce environmental risk, etc.
  • Plan, execute and analyze experiments using statistical methods, and report them
  • Communicate technical progress and results with global and cross-functional team
  • Support Contract Manufacturers in developing new capability/capacity to fulfill future business needs
  • Train and coach technical and manufacturing associates

Required Qualifications

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or science
  • Minimum 5 years process engineering experience
  • Experience on leading capital investment project
  • Experience in the areas of 1) Performing equipment validation activities, 2) Applying statistical tools such as SPC and designed experiments in manufacturing
  • Knowledge and experience on 1) Web handling and coating technology, 2) Environment and sustainability regulation
  • Logical thinking, sound knowledge of engineering principles and demonstrated ability to apply them to troubleshoot equipment, processes, material, and quality issues
  • Demonstrated ability to 1) Network/interact and contribute effectively in cross-functional teams, 2) Prioritize and lead projects to completion, 3) Work hands-on with manufacturing equipment
  • Continuous improvement mindset for optimizing production processes and equipment
  • Excellent communication skills and technical writing skills, including practical English and fluent Japanese communication skills
  • Flexibility to support off-shift production and work with global teammates in different time zones as necessary 
  • Willingness to travel including oversea (less than 10%)
