About the Role

We are looking for an Electrical Automation Design Engineer to join our team. In this role, you will be involved in electrical controls design, software design, specification development, installation, startup, project management, and support for new and existing equipment and systems. 

 

This position offers multiple work arrangements: on-site at our facility in Phoenix, Arizona, hybrid work allowed in most locations within the United States, depending upon the responsibilities of the role and business needs.

 

Responsibilities

  • Perform electrical design and hands-on support for process equipment (e.g., drives, programmable logic controller [PLC] logic programming, human-machine interfaces [HMIs], wiring schematics, power systems, instrumentation, and motor control systems)
  • Be an integral member of a project team that specifies, constructs, commissions and supports design and validation of manufacturing equipment
  • Work closely with vendors on the design and purchase of new equipment and modification to existing systems
  • Troubleshoot and support existing process and auxiliary equipment
  • Create and/or update software and electrical specifications and documentation
  • Partner with maintenance technicians to troubleshoot and resolve electrical and controls issues with automated manufacturing equipment
  • Work with process engineers to improve and optimize existing equipment and designs 

 

 

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering or related degree (including Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, etc.) 
  • Minimum of 3 years professional work experience working as an integral part of a cross-functional team
  • Experience with PLC logic or other industrial control and HMI interface programming
  • Demonstrated experience leading, prioritizing, and completing multiple technical projects and daily tasks
  • Experience performing electrical design and hands-on support for process equipment
  • Experience with industrial drives and controls
  • Working knowledge of the National Electrical Code (NEC) and machine safety practices
  • Ability to translate ambiguous customer needs to defined equipment requirements
  • Ability and desire to work in a hands-on medical device manufacturing environment
  • Ability to travel up to 10%

 

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience with Allen Bradley PLC and drive programming, temperature controllers, and robotics
  • Computer-Aided Design (CAD) drawing experience to generate schematics, 3D electrical panel layouts, and other documentation
  • Work knowledge of electrical code and standards for industrial equipment design

 

Remote Working Arrangements are permitted for Associates in the continental United States (US) and Canada, with appropriate approval and compliance with Gore’s remote working policies, from the country in which they are employed. ​For fully remote roles, the following locations are not eligible for new fully remote work arrangements: Alaska and Hawaii (for all roles), and Rhode Island (for wage/hourly roles only).
