About the Role

We are looking for a Senior Mechanical CAD Drafter to join our Design Engineering team. In this role, you will create, maintain, and manage detailed 3D CAD models, drawings, and documentation that support the design, development, and sustainment of medical devices across the product lifecycle. You will work closely with design engineers, process engineers, quality engineers, and technicians to ensure design intent is accurately captured and communicated. This role is an opportunity to apply deep technical drafting expertise within a collaborative, cross-functional environment, while influencing drawing quality, standards compliance, and best practices across projects. Diversity is a core value at Gore, and this position plays an important role in supporting inclusive collaboration and shared technical excellence.

This position will be located at our facilities in Phoenix or Flagstaff, Arizona, with the possibility of a hybrid work arrangement.

Responsibilities

  • Create, revise, and maintain detailed 3D CAD models, assemblies, and 2D engineering drawings in accordance with established standards and quality system requirements
  • Translate design concepts, engineering direction, and functional requirements into clear, complete, and accurate drawings that fully communicate design intent
  • Apply and review geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) per ASME Y14.5 to support manufacturability, inspection, and functional performance
  • Partner with design engineers to support CAD design for new product development activities, including concept development, design iterations, design reviews, and risk reduction efforts
  • Deliver complete drawing packages, including models, drawings, bills of materials, notes, and supporting documentation required for manufacturing and inspection
  • Support commercial product lines through drawing updates, engineering changes, specification revisions, and documentation needed for design changes, CAPAs, and NCRs
  • Interface with design, process, quality, and supplier engineering to clarify drawing requirements, address technical questions, and support issue resolution
  • Ensure compliance with applicable industry standards and regulatory requirements (e.g., ASME, ISO, 21 CFR Part 820) in drafting and documentation practices
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement and standardization of CAD templates, drawing practices, and drafting workflows within the design engineering function
  • Mentor and provide technical guidance to less-experienced CAD users, supporting consistent quality and skill development across the team

Required Qualifications

  • Associate’s degree or technical certification in Drafting, Design Technology, Mechanical Design, or a related discipline, with a minimum of 8 years of progressive CAD drafting experience; or Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of 6 years of relevant experience
  • Advanced proficiency with 3D CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, CREO, or equivalent), including complex assemblies and configuration management
  • Demonstrated expertise in creating detailed engineering drawings and applying GD&T in accordance with ASME Y14.5 standards
  • Experience working within a regulated quality system and supporting design documentation for highly regulated industries (e.g., medical devices, aerospace, automotive)
  • Demonstrated commitment to fostering an inclusive work environment and collaborating respectfully with diverse teams
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing processes, inspection methods, and design for manufacturability principles
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills for collaborating with technical and non-technical partners
  • Demonstrated ability to apply engineering change information, redlines, and technical direction to produce complete and accurate drawings which are ready for manufacturing and inspection.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple drafting assignments, prioritize work, and meet project timelines with minimal supervision
  • Ability to travel up to 5%

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience contributing to drafting standards development, template creation, or CAD system optimization initiatives
  • Experience producing and maintaining complex drawing packages for released products, including support of engineering changes, drawing revisions, and documentation updates in a production environment
  • Advanced certifications such as CSWP, ASME GD&T Professional (GDTP), or equivalent technical credentials
