About the Role
We are looking for an experienced SAP Technical Release and ChaRM Specialist to join our GMDIT team in Bangalore, India. In this role, you will be responsible for designing, implementing, and governing SAP release management processes using SAP Solution Manager/ Cloud ALM ChaRM (Change Request Management). In addition, this role ensures controlled, compliant, and predictable transport and release cycles across complex SAP landscapes, while enabling efficient delivery for projects, enhancements, and support. The role acts as the authority for SAP change, transport, and release governance, working closely with project, development, testing, basis, and business teams. This is an opportunity to contribute to a dynamic team, expand your expertise across SAP technologies, and help shape our digital transformation journey.
Responsibilities
• Define and own SAP release management strategy, policies, and standards across the SAP landscape-- including planning, coordinating, and executing SAP releases across development, quality, and production systems, while managing release calendars, code freezes, cutover windows, and deployment schedules in addition to ensure adherence to ITSM, audit, and compliance requirements (e.g., SOX, GxP, internal controls).
• Design, configure, and maintain SAP Solution Manager ChaRM frameworks (standard, flexible, or custom workflows)-- including architecting transport routes, change cycles, task lists, and approval workflows aligned to delivery models, while configuring ChaRM for projects, maintenance, emergency changes, and normal changes.
• Integrate ChaRM with CTS+, Retrofit, Test Suite, and Focused Build where applicable.
• Govern SAP transport management across ABAP, Java, HANA, and S/4HANA landscapes-- including ensuring proper sequencing, bundling, and dependency management of transports, while overseeing retrofit and dual maintenance scenarios in addition to providing oversight and resolution for transport conflicts, failures, and production issues.
• Act as the primary liaison between development, testing, basis, security, and business teams-- including leading release and change governance forums (CAB, release readiness reviews) while providing guidance and training to teams on ChaRM processes and best practices.
• Identify opportunities to streamline release processes and reduce manual effort.
• Enable automation and monitoring within ChaRM and SAP Solution Manager.
• Drive continuous improvement in deployment quality, cycle time, and release stability.
• Remain current with all relevant technologies and best practices, contributing new ideas to the team where needed.
Required Qualifications
• 8+ years of SAP technical experience with strong focus on release and change management, including Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience).
• Hands-on expertise with SAP Solution Manager ChaRM configuration and architecture.
