About the Role

We are looking for a passionate Application Engineer to help grow our dynamic Fuel Cell Business Unit in China. The Applications Engineer will support products that are used globally in a variety of mobility and stationary power generation and storage applications. 

 

In this role, you will provide technical support to customers in China with deep knowledge of fuel cell products and understanding of applications.  You will work externally with customers, including large and small OEMs, sales, product managers, manufacturing and R&D engineers. You will work internally with our Japan, EMEA and NA based Technical teams. 

 

This role will be located in Gore facility in Shenzhen or Shanghai, China. 

Responsibilities

  • Develop a deep understanding of fuel cell proton exchange membrane (PEM) membrane electrode assembly (MEA) technology, and their interaction/influence on fuel cell power stacks or systems 
  • Cultivate in-depth market and application understanding of fuel cell applications 
  • Understand customers’ needs and collaborating with global team to fulfill those needs, utilizing and developing internal capabilities  
  • Participate in new product development, commercialization, and market introduction projects, bringing in knowledge of the customer and application needs  
  • Educate the sales & marketing team and customers on product performance characteristics, applications, and installation processes  
  • Support customer validation activities to ensure the elements of Fit-For-Use and the customer requirements are met 
  • Address customer technical issues and driving the resolution of quality issues 
  • Influence fuel cell stack or system specifications that serve as a competitive advantage for Gore’s performance and capabilities. 
  • Directly interface with Fuel Cell system and stack OEMs to influence the optimization and troubleshooting of designs to maximize the benefit of Gore’s proton exchange membranes.

Required Qualifications

  • B.S Degree in Materials Science and Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Physics, Polymer, or Chemistry. 
  • A minimum of 5 years fuel cell stack or system application experience 
  • Strong technical acumen with ability to interface with leading research scientists. 
  • Demonstrated ability to engage customers/the market independently in deep technical discussions. 
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills to efficiently resolve technical issues. 
  • Strong interpersonal skills, including both written and verbal communication, enable effective virtual teaming. 
  • Demonstrated ability to manage expectations, with internal or external customers. 
  • Proven ability to extract application requirements and translate into product specifications. 
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule to accommodate working within an international team, including morning/evening conference calls. 
  • Ability to travel 25%  

 

Desired Qualifications

  • Polymer science background. 

  • Experience in the Automotive Industry. 

  • Experience with strategic selling and market assessment activities
