The W.L. Gore Analytical Team is looking for a student pursuing a degree in materials science, chemical engineering or a related field to join our team at our Elk Mills 1 facility in Elkton, MD.  In this role students will be introduced to thermal, mechanical and rheological analysis and will use techniques such as TGA, DSC, TMA, DMA, thermal conductivity and rheology to perform analysis on a wide range of materials.  This person will work closely with associates who offer a high level of technical knowledge and deep scientific understanding of products used in medical, industrial and commercial applications.  Students will have the opportunity to study a broad range of materials by using material characterization techniques to gain insight into how process-structure-property relationships play a role during production and in their final use.

 

Pay and Benefits:

  • $25 - $27 per hour 
  • Factors considered in extending an offer within this pay range include (but not limited to) education, experience, knowledge, skills and abilities. 

 

Responsibilities include:

  • Preparing samples and operating analytical testing instruments in a high-volume analytical laboratory
  • Collaborate with associates from a wide range of backgrounds and product applications to design experiments which answer questions and solve problems related to materials and products
  • Interpreting the results of experiments and sharing these results through presentations or reports

 

Required Qualifications:

  • Enrollment in an ABET accredited B.S. or M.S. degree program in one of the following areas: Chemical Engineering, Materials (or Polymer) Science or majors in related disciplines with transferable knowledge and experience
  • Successful completion of your sophomore year of college prior to start of internship and continued pursuit of degree in the fall
  • Ability to commit to a (minimum) 4-month term
  • Travel – 0%
